My Annotation of "Awe"
Here is the connotation behind how I think deeply[+] when coining and using the term "awe" in the Gospel-centered resources that I produce:
Awe is the dynamic emotive expression of someone's wonder and joyful astonishment concerning someone or something. It's the highest form of marvel –driven reverence that falls just short of worship. There is a hint of bewilderment woven into awe as the person is flabbergasted at what they are beholding in front of them. Where worship explodes from the heart like a tea kettle overwhelmed by the pressure of the steam whistling it's song; awe reflects the same pressure filled tea kettle that instead stops just short of the whistling performance that worship produces. In other words, worship is the inward build up of such levels of awe that it powerfully overflows into the outward expression of worship; whereas awe never fully and finally arrives at such climatic levels.
As usual, I am tempted to divulge much deeper into the topic of awe; providing real life examples and perhaps connecting the importance of our Christ-centered awe to holding a healthy view of God. But this is a "brief " definition that is purposed to supplement whichever gospel centered resource it is connected to. Let's see what God says.... perhaps a future Bible lesson or blog may occur on the subject... You just never know
